Questionnaire Result Analysis Regarding a College Magazine

Before designing a college magazine, we put forward a questionnaire to 30 students to discover how they would feel about such a magazine and what they would like it to include. First of all 17 of the students were male and 13 were female, this may have had an effect on the outcome of the following questions asked.

When asked what the magazine should include most of the students, 11 to be precise, answered music. Both sports and film releases/reviews were chosen by 5 students, technology by 4, fashion by 3 and general college info was the least popular with 2. From these results we will try to include each category proportionately to its popularity.

We also asked how much people would be willing to pay for the magazine. 21 of the students answered 50p and 9 answered £1 so an amount between 50p and 75p would be appropriate.

Another question we put forward was whether or not an online version of the magazine would be a good idea. A resounding majority of 25 out of the 30 students asked said yes meaning this is an option worth pursuing.

15 out of 30 students said that the magazine should be printed onto A4 therefore meaning that the other 15 wished for it to be printed on A5, these results may either be of little help or possibly tell us that the size of paper on which the magazine is printed does not matter to the students.

When we asked how often the magazine should be released 20 students said they would like it to be released once every term, 7 answered monthly and 3 said weekly. These results show that one issue per term would be an appropriate choice.

The next two questions asked were regarding competitions and free gifts. 27 students said that they would like to see competitions in the magazine with only 3 saying that they would not. 28 students said that they would like the magazine to offer free gifts meaning that 2 said no. From these results it is apparent that competitions and free gifts would be helpful in ensuring the popularity of a college magazine.

Another question that we asked was whether or not they read magazines already, the results were close with 16 students saying yes and 14 no. This tells us that not everyone is interested in magzines in general let alone a college magazine.

Finally we asked where the magazine should be sold. 17 students said that the magazine should be sold in college, 3 said in shops and 10 said in both. From this the logical choice would be to offer the magazine for sale in both to allow for maximum sales.
